APPEARANCE: Holy Tax Accountant
PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY: N/A
PERSONALITY: Angels are warriors of God. I´m a soldier.Castiel's personality is, in many ways, in a shifting state of change. When we first meet him, he has about the personality equivalent of a wall. He's an Angel of the Lord and he has not had a lot of interactions with humanity or life on Earth. His entire life he has followed orders, unwaveringly and without doubt. For longer than humans have existed. He's come down to Earth before, but he's never gotten to know humans and he really doesn't understand them. He appears cold, bordering on emotionless. It is through his interactions with Dean (and his brother, Sam) that Castiel starts to come to understand and even become more human in his emotions.
My superiors have decided I've become too close to my charges... that I am starting to show emotions, the doorways to doubt. His fascination with the Winchester brothers, and especially Dean, has caused him a lot of trouble. From being demoted and punished in Heaven for his doubt in what they were doing to the Winchesters, to his full on rebellion from Heaven to protect them, Castiel is constantly putting his very existence and faith on the line to aid the Winchesters.
By this particular point in his canon, Castiel has begun to realize that he and the other angels greatly underestimated the human race. He has learned from Dean about why it is so important to save this world that he had only been seeing as one full of pain and grief and guilt. So he has given everything, including his faith, to the Winchester Brothers. Because the fact of the matter is, Castiel is loyal. He has always been loyal, and almost blindly so. He followed the orders of a father he never knew, even when the dangerous emotion of
doubt began to take hold of him and sink into his skin. Long after his brothers and sisters had all turned on him, after he was cast out of heaven, killed, murdered his siblings and fought heaven and hell alongside the Winchesters, he still held onto his belief that God was out there, and would help them.
You son of a bitch. I believed in you.And then Castiel suffered a series of devastating blows. God, his father, the man he had believed in all his life and followed, sought to make proud and fight for, turned his back on them at the darkest hours of their need for him. Castiel felt understandable betrayed, lost, even angry. He went on to drink an entire liquor store in his depression, and it was easy to see he was not sure what to do, or what they could do, from there. And still he was prepared to keep fighting, because Castiel has developed a belief in something else. He believes in Dean Winchester. He has put his faith into Dean's hands, coming to help him whenever he calls, killing his own siblings to help Sam and Dean. But even this would be taken from him.
I killed two angels this week. My brothers. I´m hunted. I rebelled and I did it - all of it - for you. And you failed. You and your brother destroyed the world. And I lost everything for nothing.Castiel's raw wounds would be opened again when, after everything they had done, and after everything Cas had done for the Winchesters, Dean tricked and betrayed him, banishing Cas and leaving to try and give himself to the angels. Castiel showed an emotion he had rarely displayed until then.
Wrath. He was furious with Dean to the point of beating him bloody and dragging him back to Bobby's. He put everything he could into the Winchesters and they just kept disappointing him. Sam, when he could not resist his own weaknesses and set the devil free, and Dean, when he gave up on everything they had fought for so far. His faith was being broken again, while the wounds of his shaken Faith in god were still fresh.
This isn't funny Dean, the voice says I'm almost out of minutes!Cas is an angel in a human vessel and he does not make it terrible easy to forget. Having spent so little time on Earth, Cas' 'people skills' are more than just a little rusty. He doesn't really know much of anything about popular human culture, idioms and jokes, or even personal space. When he speaks it is precise, to the point, and often bluntly honest and serious. The conventions of lying are still a bit unusual to him, and he has some difficulty understanding why humans do so, so often. Sarcasm is a human notion he is only slowly beginning to grasp through his interactions with Dean, but he does seem to have a better hold on it than most other human societal customs. It has begun to grow to the point where Castiel is frustrated by his own inability to understand references.
I mentioned personal space before, and it is an important topic to touch back on. The thing is, Castiel is very much not human. He's an angel, and his understanding of the world is not the same as most humans. Dean is the most often, unfortunate recipient of Castiel's lack of knowledge on this particular social boundary, but anyone can fall victim to it. Castiel often appears mere inches from Dean when he does decide to 'poof' in, and when discussing something or studying someone, he will often lean in close or stare eye to eye with a person for a long (uncomfortable) period of time. It is not that he is trying to be rude, he just has no reason to consider why that could be uncomfortable for someone.
Surprisingly, in spite of Cas' very inhuman nature and lack of conversational habits, he speaks volumes with his body language. From the way he tilts his head or furrows his brows, to the position of his shoulders or the different intakes and outtakes of breath, Castiel's body language is much like his few spoken words. Honest. But because Castiel does not observe his own body language, it is far more unguarded than his brief communications. It makes it easy to tell when the angel is frustrated or surprised by something that happens around him. He maintains some rather intense eye contact with whoever he is communicating with, and it can get a bit unnerving at times.
The most interesting quality Castiel has about him, though, is loyalty. When Castiel is loyal to someone, it's with a fierce passion. He will disregard his own safety to the point of being willing to die for his cause -- a fact proved over and over again by getting himself killed (and thankfully resurrected) multiple times for Dean and Sam. He considers himself not just their friend but their guardian, and will go great lengths to keep them safe, no matter the cost. This includes making a deal with a demon because he thinks it is the only way he will be able to keep the boys (and by extension the rest of humanity) safe.
ABILITIES: Intelligence:
Castiel has been around for a long time. A
very long time. And in all that time he has picked up a thing or two. While the socially awkward angel may not be quick with a joke, or understand the pop culture references Dean has a habit of dishing out, he knows a great deal about many other things. He has vast amounts of knowledge on Supernatural beings and rituals to deal with them, Human history, sigils, rituals, languages (including Enochian, the language of the angels) and more. He's also very clever and quick to pick up on the tricks and traps of others around him. He manages to seemingly get the jump on most of the other angels in Heaven.
Combat:
Castiel has proven himself to be an impressive fighter. He is, after all, a soldier. He was able to take on at least three of his fellow angels in hand to hand armed combat and win on his skills with fighting and defending alone. But it is not just the angel sword that Castiel seems capable of handling. He proves to be surprisingly adept with a shotgun as well. Fist-fighting an angel would also be an unwise decision. Any time we have seen Dean attempt to punch Cas, it has ended without so much as a flinch from the angel and a throbbing in Dean's hands. His vessel is still human, however, and does bleed when his fights with his brothers, demons, or other powerful beings end bloodily.
Angel mojo' (Grace):
At his current canon point, Castiel's powers are limited. His ability to heal others and to send demons back to hell with a touch are cut off from him. His other abilities include a wide variety, that I am happy to limit as necessary.
Immortality/Invulnerability: Cas can heal injuries to his vessel, and while he can be (and has been) killed, it is not a simple matter. It would take a powerful force (in both instances, he was actually
exploded, vessel and all) or an angel sword, to kill him. He's also incredibly, inhumanly strong, both of physical strength and strength of body. Being an angel, he does not age, or need to eat, drink, breathe or sleep.
Personal Trans-Space Invasion (Or Teleportation if you want to be boring): Castiel has the ability to 'poof' himself from location to location. In the show, this is his main means for transporting himself around. All he needs to know is where the person or place he is headed for is, and he is there. Often as Dean is still finishing telling him of the location, he is met with Cas uncomfortably close to touching noses with him. (I would love if he could keep this and just be limited to, say, the ship or whatever location they are occupying?)
Sandman:Castiel can knock someone unconscious with a touch to the head. It puts the person into a deep sleep, giving Cas the opportunity to continue whatever he was discussing or doing unencumbered. He can also locate people in their dreams and go and speak with them there.
Locating: If someone is not hidden by Enochian sigils, Castiel can generally locate them if necessary. Until he branded Sam and Dean's bones, he could find and appear around them without a moment's notice. After the fact, he had to call for their location to find them.
Soul Reading: Castiel is able to determine the state of someone's soul. He is also able to use a soul as a power source.
Telekinesis: Castiel can impart kinetic energy on matter with his mind.
Telepathy: Castiel is able to read the minds of humans and lower-level angels.
Voice Mimicry: In the show he perfectly imitated Bobby Singer's voice
Pyrokinesis - Castiel displays the ability to burn through ropes holding him.
(Powers he had but is cut off from: Healing or resurrecting others and demon killing)
POSSESSIONS: His clothes and his angel sword are his only possessions.
